About
Program & Teacher
Laura Rohrman, a professional playwright, actor, choreographer, and educator, holds an MFA from the Actors Studio Drama School and post-graduate teaching credentials from California State University. She founded Playwriting for Kids in 2015 to share her passion for theater and storytelling with her two young daughters. What began as a volunteer program at New York's PS89 school quickly grew, integrating into school curricula and expanding to schools across New York tri-state area. As a private class in Battery Park City, Playwriting for Kids has helped hundreds of young writers bring their stories to life. Under Laura’s guidance, students have written and performed 15 original plays, including America's Secret and Three Adaptations of Lenape folklore — now published by Drama Notebook and used in classrooms nationwide.
In 2020, Playwriting for Kids transitioned to an online format, making its unique approach to acting, storytelling, and artistic expression accessible to children everywhere. Since then, students from across the globe—including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Ireland, Italy, the United Kingdom, and even Los Angeles :)—have participated in engaging, interactive classes that inspire creativity and confidence.
