About the Program/Teacher

Laura has an MFA in from the Actors Studio Drama School/New School for Drama and works as a professional playwright, actor and choreographer. Laura created Playwriting For Kids in the fall of 2015 to share her love of theater and playwriting with her daughters. Soon she began teaching at PS89 as a volunteer, working alongside the teachers and within the school curriculum. The program was a success and Laura was asked to teach it in other schools in NY and NJ. Eventually the the class took its current shape as a private class in BPC. Since its inception, Laura has worked with hundreds of kids to write and perform 15 original new plays, including America's Secret as well as three adapted Native American plays based on the Lenape folklore that are published by Drama Notebook and being staged/used as learning tools at schools around the country.

PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED PLAYS

Laura has worked with hundreds of kids to write and perform 15 original plays – some that have gone on to be published by Drama Notebook, a top online publisher for educational kids plays. America’s Secret was just published in April 2020.

Three adapted Lenape folklore plays are also published on this platform and available for licensing. These plays are perfect for kids who are studying social studies.
